2D Views of the Tricuspid Valve

Introduction
 
The tricuspid valve (TV), pulmonary valve (PV) and pulmonary artery (PA) are discussed in this chapter. The anatomy of the TV was discussed in the RV chapter. This chapter discusses the anatomy of the PV and PA, evaluation of tricuspid and pulmonary regurgitation, and basic evaluation of the pulmonary artery. Tricuspid Valve Standard TEE Views
 
The tricuspid valve is best visualized both the standard and some nonstandard views. The standard views for the tricuspid valves are the midesophageal 4 chamber and the midesophageal RV inflow-outflow (RVIO) views. By utilizing the various views, a complete examination of the tricuspid valve should be performed.  Since the tricuspid valve is always located in the far field, the examination of the tricuspid valve is frequently less effective when compared to the examination of the mitral valve which is located in the near field.  The presence of bioprosthetic material and/or calcium may make the examination of the tricuspid valve difficult.
