How to interpret Jet area in Tricuspid Regurgitation.

  1. Obtain a CFD of the largest TR Jet.

    The jet area is indicative of the degree of tricuspid regurgitation. The major factors that can influence the jet area need to be accounted for on each interrogation of the tricuspid valve. Those factors are:

    • Ejection Fraction
    • Aliasing Velocity
    • Color Gain
    • Pulmonary Artery Pressure
  2. Low EF will falsely lower the jet size. Low Aliasing velocity (should be around 50 cm/sec) will falsely enlarge the jet area. High color gain will falsely enlarge the jet area. Low blood pressure may falsely lower the jet area (interpret the jet area with a blood pressure of 150 systolic, if possible).
